Duties Description The Research Scientist 4 will work in the Bureau of Vital and Health Statistics to help the Office of Health Services Quality and Analytics meet its responsibilities to promote health care quality and patient safety through a variety of data-driven means including health care services research and analysis, quality metrics, development of public data sets, and ad hoc projects. The duties will include, but are not limited to:
Development and implementation of research, analysis, reporting, and evaluation activities. Development of public data sets, Tableau visualizations and dashboards using All Payer Data (APD) and other data. Development, implementation and validation of data integration algorithms for large data systems for research and reporting activities. Development of novel processes and methodologies to evaluate data utility and quality. Application of quality metrics for evaluation of care, outcomes, costs across payers, service types, facilities, and geography. Projects will include development of research and statistical analyses for internal and public reporting on primary care, maternal and child health, sepsis, Vital Statistics, and other emerging health priorities. Collaboration on development of analytical reports for management and stakeholders, statistical briefs, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and technical documentation. Supervision of research and analytical staff.
Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Biostatistics, Public Health, Epidemiology, health informatics, data analytics, public administration, government analytics, mathematics, engineering or a related field and five years of professional research experience** in an appropriate field.
**Substitutions: master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience, and Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for two years of professional research experience.
Preferred Qualifications: •Strong statistical, research, and data management skills
• Strong experience in data analysis, management and validation using SAS, SQL, R or other statistical languages
• Experience in development and implementation of algorithms and processes of data integration and data linkages across multiple data sources
• Experience with statistical methods and their application for predictive analytics
• Proven experience analyzing health care claims data and other administrative data sources
• Experience with visualization software such as Tableau is a plus
• Excellent communication, organization, and program management skills
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment
• Supervisory experience is a plus
Additional Comments Work hours and telecommuting availability (50% maximum) for this position will be discussed during the interview process and are subject to operational needs and the telecommuting application process.
