Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:

• Successfully complete requirements to become an instructor in PROMOTE and CPR.
• Deliver training programs including, but not limited to PROMOTE and CPR.
• Support and oversee New Employee Orientation, including but not limited to scheduling of instructors and monitoring new employee attendance.
• Maintain frequent email and phone communication with operations employees and supervisors.
• Deliver New Employee Orientation sessions as assigned.
• Become a Statewide Learning Management System (SLMS) secondary administrator.
• Assist in SLMS class creation and data entry.
• Assist staff in navigating the SLMS.
• Maintain materials necessary for training.
• Assist with classroom and equipment set up.
• Provide ongoing support to training classes.
• Travel as needed to support training needs.
• Liaison with program operations to assess and coordinate continuing education.
• Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Open Competitive:
For appointment to the Training Specialist Trainee 1 Mental Hygiene, NS (equivalent to SG-14):
A bachelor’s degree or higher degree.

For appointment to the Training Specialist Trainee 2 Mental Hygiene, NS (equivalent to SG-16):
A bachelor's degree and one year of professional experience developing and delivering major segments of institution and community training programs to improve the knowledge and abilities of those caring for and treating individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities in institutional and community settings.

For appointment to Training Specialist 1 Mental Hygiene, SG-18:
A bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience developing and delivering major segments of institution and community training programs to improve the knowledge and abilities of those caring for and treating individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities in institutional and community settings.

Substitution:
A Juris Doctor, master's or higher degree in a related field can substitute for one year of specialized experience.

Transfer:
• Currently serving as a Training Specialist 1 Mental Hygiene and eligible for transfer OR
• Reachable on the Civil Service List for Training Specialist 1 MH OR
• One year in a permanent title eligible for 70.1 transfer per Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

• This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.

• At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.

• Family and household member relationships: OPWDD policy may impact eligibility for this position.
